How is everyone setting their axles after final adjustment?
We were going to use some 4-40 sets screws but don't have enough wood to house them now.
We typically set both rear wheels and the non-dominant front and then tweek the dfw until welike it and then set.
We are wondering what othersaredoingto ensure a tight and reliable hold once adjusted.
Adhesives, epoxies, axle pullers, etc..
Also, how many times are others pulling axles and putting back in before final set?

Wedge, I'm a rookie and not an engineer or machinist either but this has really worked great for me: First of all I am Re-drilling holes, not using slots for axle insertion. I do the same and like to set the wheels after adjustments and save the FDW for last + also using the axle bending method at .010 inch up on the front to control steering (mark with sharpie at 12:00 & rotate till you find the sweet spot). Before I cut the shape of the car when I am drilling all the holes. I will create a small axle tip window on the under body by drilling down about 1/4 inch or until I find the axle hole. The diameter of the window does not need to be big, just big enough to see the axle once fully inserted and be able to apply a few drops of super glue into the window. It will hold just fine and Super glue remover works really good for loosening and axle removal.
I'm probably not the only one that has done this- I just don't think anyone has ever posted on it. Hope it helps.

One more thing, I have been removing the wheels carefully by hand, with worry that I may be damaging the wheels- I just ordered the axle/wheel removal tool from Pinewood extreme- haven't gotten it yet but it looks like its worth a try.

Thanks Sappington. Never heard of the superglue remover. I'll give that a go this year.
I am also looking to get that axle puller, it looks like the best way to go.

On superglue remover: I don't find it as effective on old glue. To this end, I recently was removing the wheels from a 2 year old pack winner and ended up pull a piece of wood out with it. I think it works best on relatively fresh glue- I don't have any experience past 1 month of set time.

We have been drilling our window hole (#44) in the center of the axle and when the car is done and aligned add one drop of CA hobby glue (super glue like) in the window.
It holds well enough to race plenty and to remove, grab with a pair of small straight pliers and twist about 1/8th. of a turn to break the glue loose and pull. The small amount scrapes off with a exacto knife but usually if we are takin one apart, we replace the axles anyway.

My oldest boy wolf car I super glue from underneath like said. I took a the drill bit from axle body tool to loosen up glue first
