Can anyone point me to some tried and true alignment methods that are currently used? I've heard talk of wax shims or foil, etc. but have no idea how to actually do it. Looking for some detailed "how to's".
Thanks everyone!

I've seen a number of different methods. One is to take the axles out of the car and wet the car body interior enough to let the wood swell the realign the holes. If I don't like the alignment, I either plug and re-drill or bend an axle.
The use of an alignment board is valuable. This is a 3/4 inch melamine cabinet shelf about 16 inches wide by 8 ft long with a line drawn down the center. Elevating one end about an inch and then coasting the car down the centerline will show the "tracking". Adjustments are then made and re-testing done until desired alignment is attained.
I've tried wax paper shims and other things only to find that the axle hole gets bigger and bigger making the problem worse.
