In general, do you recommend polishing the wheel treads to reduce friction against the track?
Also, I purchased a set of Ultra Light wheels the comment note said these wheels were ready to go .. should I polish?
If I should, what polish do you recommend?
Thanks...

Hey Derby Dad, If you are talking about the Pro Ultra-Lite wheels, yes, they are ready to race right out of the box. But like any performance part, can benefit from a little prep. If you need to polish the outside of the wheel, I suggest doing it by hand, using a dry paper towel. It is amazing how well they will shine with a quick rub. The axle bores are precision reamed, and will be quite fast the way they are, but may benefit from a polish with Micro-gloss plastic polish (or similar) and a pipe cleaner, especialy if you are going to use a liquid lube (krytox, ny-oil ect,). Only use a hand drill to polish, as a dremel will spin the pipe cleaner too fast, risking damage to the bore. Also, we like to cut the pipe cleaner in half, so it is easier to control, and has less chance of whipping around. Just be careful when inserting the pipe cleaner into the bore, that you don't scratch it with the pipe cleaners inner wire. Also, it is best to use the extra-fluffy kind of pipe cleaners found at tobacco shops, not the craft store ones. Hope this helps, and keep us posted on how things go! See you in Victory Lane!! Thanks for the info. Yes, I purchased the Pro Ultra lites. I also purchased the ones that were not "tuned" as much.

Ok, so if I got this right, there is no need to polish the wheel tread, hub or bore with a fine grit sandpaper (like a 2000 or 3000 grit?) My son has a set of ultra-lites he got from derby champ, but hasnt prepped them for the race yet. So no sanding, just polishing? When you polish them, do you use the micro-gloss plastic polish on the wheel tread too? If so, after your done polishing with the micro-gloss, do you then shine them up with graphite or not? Also, where can you get a bottle of micro-gloss? Sorry for the stupid questions, just dont want to wreck a $40 set of wheels!

The wheels are pretty mch good to go out of the box. As Warp mentioned above, a good rub (by hand) with a paper towel will put a shine on tread surface. The bore can be further polished/prepped with a soft pipe cleaner with toothpaste or plastic polish. If using a liquid lube this is essential, less important with graphite.

Arm and Hammer whitening toothpaste works well with a pipe cleaner.

I have a limited number of axle sets if anyone wants them. They are a little tricked out over the BSA axles. These are perfect for league racers using DerbyWorx/WarpSpeed wheels such as ultralites, and Pro stocks. They are aluminum and are .091-.092 in diameter. They could use a light sanding and polishing, but overall are awesome. I ran across these almost by accident. Let me know if you want a set. My email is tjohnson6231@charter.net.
