Good evening everyone!!! This is a week of firsts for me, my first post and my first WIRL races so take it easy on us as we try to catch up. My name is Darryl and I own and operate www.DerbyDominator.com which I hope some of you have visited in the last two seasons we have been on board. If you have, thanks! and if not, now's the time as the water is warm and the lines are short! We entered our first WIRL races under the name WIRL Rookie Racers as my son thought it was a cool name, it had ring, and I was scared we would get our PD butts kicked all over Georgia. We actually fared much better than I expected. CUL8R actually was in distant sniffing range of Alastor in Pure Stock until the 4th heat when she lost her way and went from 2.897 to 2.94 and so on from there. We'll fix her up when she gets home and send her back on her way! "Eyes" was my favorite and won Pure Stock by a margin. Just forgot to tell him it was a race for lowest time, not most consistent times. He varied wildly from 2.832 all the way to 2.836. I wouldn't have thought he could stay that close on times if he was standing still. I won't apologize for Jet Stream by the way. That was my son's open championship winner for this past spring's races but it was on life support. The thing is, at the end of each of my son's races, all the kids want to race their cars on the floor against each other. And though it pains me, as he put some 20+ hours into that car, if he wants to race it on the floor, then by God, he should be able to race it on the floor. Just don't ask me to spend 12$ to race it against pros. Congratulations to Alastor and Duffer! Try Wait and Grumpy, I can see you up ahead and will just have to eat some dust until I can catch you. Don't know how yet and can't sleep for trying but gotta find a way! Early signs of WIRL addiction I have been reading about I guess. We are working on our first competitive modified for July as we haven't had any races for that category, so we may have to post it under WIRL Rookie Racers unless you guys give us a head start. I apologize for taking so long to get here and taking so long once I did, but we will work on shorter times all the way around in the future! Enjoyed the heck out of our first week and look forward to many more! See ya' in the fast lane or at least one of the 4!!!

Hey Scott,
I have been living with the other parts for a while but I seriously don't think I can deal with the dog not knowing me anymore! My wife really doesn't have too much problem with me taking over the garage or at least my half, but the kitchen table got her rowled up pretty good then of course the graphite issue on the corian counter top didn't go over well. Goo Be Gone literally saved the marriage that night! She is thinking of starting a women's clothing line with pinewood derby stuff mixed in just so I will pay more attention to her. She actually said it differently but you get the point!

Steve,
If I'm not mistaken, didn't Wasabi end up with the track record before WIRL changed tracks? If so, have you ever raced it and Alastor against each other? How much differential? Just trying to get an idea of how fast one can make these cars go. What scares me is that I imagine it is like golf in that getting from a 2 handicap to scratch is 10 times harder than going from a 4 to a 2. I was a 12 before PWD so we can forget that!

Hey Darryl:
Alastor and Wasabi have gone head-to-head on several occasions. At one time Alastor was clearly the quicker of the two. Since then Alastor has lost a step and Wasabi has picked up a couple. The most recent match-up was here at WIRL in December of last year. Wasabi finished .035 average faster than Alastor. However, when I got Alastor back after the race, I saw that she was cracked length wise from about mid-body back. I patched her up and I'm pretty sure she picked up some speed and closed that gap considerably. My best guess is that Wasabi would run about .02 faster (6 heat average) than Alastor, which would put her at around 2.866 here. But that's just my best guess.
You are exactly right in the golf analogy. The last 5/1000th is the hardest to find. In fact, at some point the harder you try to make these little devils go faster, the slower they go. Of course, that is half the fun.
Holy cow Darryl. I just realized you are in Houston. Dude we gotta hook up!!! Check your PMs.

Darryl:
In case you don't know how to check your PMs (personal messages) just scroll up on this screen to the very top and look in the upper right hand corner. There it will say "Hey Derby Dominator, you have _____ messages . . . " Just click on the word messages. That will take you to your PMs.

Hey Steve,
So if I understand you correctly, Wasabi is about .02 faster than Alastor and at her best, CUL8R was about .02 behind Alastor, so .04 behind Wasabi. Now, if the last .005 is the hardest and I have 8 of those to go, I think I'm in trouble. LOL! Better keep working on that new gas phase lubricant. OOPS didn't mean to let that one slip. Now, where is that undo button? Ahh, there it is right next to the post reply button. Great! Now, just click and there it ..... OH NO Double OOPS!

Welcome Darryl!
Can't call you DD as that is Derby Doc...Perhaps Triple D for Darryl the Derby Dominator.
Glad to have you on the "circuit'!
As Beak said this is addicting.
My wife is still waiting for me to emerge from my basement shop one of these days....nights with something made out of wood that she can use....I mean that enhances the value of our home....LOL ;D

Hey Gravity,
If you're like me and I make anything larger than a PWD car with wood, then my wife is going to hit me with it! And I'm not sure blood enhances the value of the house! Of course, with what I have sunk into the website, my pending demise may actually enhance its value. Maybe I'll market the wife's idea of PWD clothing to the wive's of everyone on this board! What do you think Tory? We could clean up! Just think about the opportunities. It would give racy lingerie a whole new meaning! Too funny!
In all seriousness, thanks to everyone for the kind welcomes!!! I look forward to racing you guys and gals for many months to come!

Hey lucky,
Give me a bit to build up the fleet and I'll be there! Is it a similar track to WIRL? Thanks for the comments on Bluegrass Nationals by the way! Always happy to support!
