As I sit here on the balcony of my hotel room 12 stories up from the beach and stare out into ocean, it reminds me of how nice it is to get away from the rat race of normal life every once in a while you recharge your batteries. I'm in sunny Myrtle Beach SC. this week. The family and I have taken this trip now for the last 4 years on the week of the Fourth of July. We really love coming here because there is so much for the kids to do and it's great fun. ;D That being said, as I sit here I definitely have realized I have the PINEWOOD BUG because I keep thinking about the set of wheels I need to prep and the axles I need to get polished and all the preperation I need to do to get ready for the next race. Man, I've got it BAD. Anyway, I didn't start this thread to tell you guys about my illness but to rather ask a question as it is vacation season. Where do you guys like to go on vacation? See Ya Scott Beakerboys

See Ya Scott Beakerboys Scott, You're at my favorite vacation spot. I love to walk on the beach and hear the ocean. We vacationed there several times when our kids were young, and we have been there several times lately with my brother and his wife. Have a great time. Phil

I grew up near Charlotte, NC and we went to Myrtle Beach every summer thru the late 60's and 70's. It has become a golf mecca since then as well. We live outside Houston now and have gone to Destin, FL the last couple of summers. Beautiful beaches and not totally overwhelmed with the hotels yet.
We never missed going to Calabash just across the state line in NC, but I imagine it has changed quite a bit since then. Lot of great memories.
We traveled from Houston to Indianapolis one Christmas by the way and my son did a dozen wheels with the Pro Shaver and hub tool including sanding on the way. I haven't found a way to get the scroll saw into the car without everyone seeing it yet though. Maybe have it sent ahead? HA! HA!

Beakerboys,
The "Pinewood Bug" does sting without any warning! Just do what I've done for the past three or four years, pack a couple of wood car blocks and carving tools. While on the beach for a week there seems to be time for car building (either early morning or late evening).

Scott, yes the beach is a great place to vacation. I live in Eastern NC and we are only a little over an hour from the beach so we make day trips during the summer. Atlantic beach and emerald isle are nice, but the traffic can be awful.
My daughter is leaving Wednesday of this week to go to Asheville, NC for a college summit camp. She will be a senior in high school and will be making some college choices soon. We are picking her up on Sunday and spending the week of the 7th in a cabin in the Smokey Mts. I'm really looking forward to a week without a company phone and laptop. Hope you have a enjoyable vacation.
Later, Ed

Hey SRC, Thanks man. I really wasn't expecting that Typhoon would run that good. I had been toying with the idea of building a Rail Rider with 3 wheels and that is what I came up with. I used the same wheels and axles off of Lime scallion just cleaned them up and relubed. I think I can now say that Rail Riding is definately faster. I'm going to build all my stock, prostock, modifieds, and promods for BlueGrass the same way as I feel that I have found a technique that will be very competitive.
As for vacations of where I have been here goes:
Last 4 yaers Myrtle Beach SC Prior to that Panama Beach FL Destin FL one time Daytona Beach one time Orlando FL(Disney World) a couple of times Savannah Ga (really cool place) Chattanooga TN ( day trip every once in awhile) Nashville TN ( went during Christmas one year really neat) New Orleans LA (had a buddy in the coast guard years back) Altantic City NJ ( for business trip horrible place) And I can remember back when I was really young my parents took me and my brother on a cross country trip from Ga all the way to California. Drove across in a rented RV. Saw the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Meteor Crator, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Redwood Forest, and stuck out feet in the Pacific just above Sacremento(cold!!!). I truly have been Bless to be able to see alot of what the US has to offer. There is so much to see.
How about you?
See Ya Scott

I don't know about a favorite spot, but the last major vacation I took with the family was an Alaskan Cruise two summers ago. Beautiful country. I have an awesome shot of me holding two Salmon that I caught on an excursion. I'll try to post pics if I can get my teenager to remind me how.
Other than that, my family, and my parents and siblings and their families get together in Las Vegas between Christmas and the 1st, to ring in the new year. It's been a standing tradition for over a decade, but now the kids are older and not enjoying it as much. Seems they are too young to gamble (I'm too chicken to gamble) and they miss their friends back home. So, we are looking for an alternative.
Also, each Spring Break we rent a beach house in Galveston for a few days. It can't compare to the beaches on the East and West Coasts, but it makes for a relaxing, fun, affordable getaway.
Next year, if I can talk Lucky13 into moving the Bluegrass up a few weeks, I take the Family to Kentucky and add Somerset to the list of annual vacation spots.

When I was traveling a lot for work I used to rack up tons of airline miles and Marriot points. We had the luxury of vacationing all over. We usually like to go to tropical places but have had fun in the Rocky Mtns also. If the trips hadn't been relatively low cost I probably wouldn't have gone to so many places.
Top Ten Sappington Vacation Spots;
There a re quite a few that don't make the list but I still like- Orlando is one of them (had a blast with the kids at the theme parks- lot's of memories). Chicago, Branson MO, Lake of the Ozarks, to name a few.
Here's my list
10. Fishing in Canada (Near Ottawa) 9. Sanibel Island, FL (Laid back- went about 10 years in a row: Tarpon fishing in late May is a blast) 8. Vegas (without younglings) 7. Lake Tahoe (Winter- used to love to ski) 6. Vail, CO (Summer, before school starts, nice & cool weather) 5. Anywhere other than a cruise ship (cause I used to work on one) 4. Riviera Maya, Mexico (All in-clusive baby! got a Palace Resorts membership, if anyone ever wants to buy a week I'll hook you up) 3. Grand Cayman, BWI (Great diving) 2. Aruba (Some of the best beaches ever) 1. Belize
