I was talking with someone the other day that won 3 district championships with his son. He told me that they polish the bores with micro-polish and finish up with black shoe polish. He uses cotton pipe cleaners and polishes the bore like you would polish a shoe.Has anyone else ever heard of something similar to this?

I haven't heard of using shoe polish but, micro gloss is all I have used for the bores and I've always wondered if there was something finer than that to polish with. Does anyone know what grit the micro gloss stuff is equivalent to? Thanks, Hyperdrive

Perhaps he is just blowing some smoke to get you off his trail!!!! When you have 3 district championships under your belt, you tend to have a big fat target on your back! Just a thought...probably wrong, but I have never heard of shoe polish being good for anything but writing your dial in on the windshield of your drag car. Now you guys are leading him on. You guys know as well as I do that shoe polish is good stuff. Yes you can use it for writing your time on your car, but it is also really good stuff for polishing your shoes.
I will tell you that there are some really good polishing items to be found at your local auto parts store. I am using some undisclosed brand from a undisclosed auto parts store and it appears to be working very well for me. I will tell you that you have to play around with it and you can mess up some wheels with it.

I also have never heard of the shoe polish, but I think it would be worth investigating. Novus is another product widely used by some builders. It is primarily used to polish plastic headlights on cars. The fastest guy I know uses some combination of a grease like substance and Hob E Lube. He says it makes the graphite "dance". Haven't figured it out yet, but the description of what it looked like sure sounds like shoe polish. Scott Beakerboys

More than likely it is the carnauba that is providing a benefit if any. I would be concerned about the drying affects of the other chemicals, many use turpentine. Maybe try some and see if it holds true, but you may get better results with using a liquid carnauba. Good Luck!!

All right then, someone try this stuff out and let us know what the skinny is on it. ;D If it works well, then lets see the proof! If not, I'll just keep using it on my windshield. I don't own a nice enough pair of shoes to use shoe polish on! I spend all my money on pinewood parts.... Andy Lester Florence, KY www.mpp-models.com
