After purchasing a 42ft Best Track and Timer last week... it didn't take long to get a charity invite. This June 12, I am putting on the Mountain Springs Christain Youth Camp (MSCYC) Pinewood Derby. This is a free event for local kids. It not a fund raiser... just an event put on by MSCYC to give the kids something to do. MSCYC is a non profit youth camp located near Grannis, Arkansas. www.ourchurch.com/view/?pageID=275171The kids they deal with live in the very rural areas of Arkansas and live on a very limited budget if any. The director and the minister of the youth camp, who is also my older brother, says that he has invited about 30 kids to come race... more could show up. These guys have never raced in a pinewood derby in their life. Most don't even know what it is. MSCYC is going to buy each boy a BSA kit. We will have many volunteers with tools who will start early Friday, June 12, helping the boys build the cars. Friday afternoon is when we will race. The racers then get to take their cars home. We will try to purchase some trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. So, we're using pinewood derby to give less fortunate kids a chance to do something fun and perhaps keep them off the streets... at least for one night. Overall, they're very good Christians kids... they just need someone to show them they care. I'll be getting the kits from our local BSA chapter for $3.79 each. If any of you know of a better source please let me know. Thanks, Steve

Something about your post just pulled at me a little, and I want to help out if I can. I always respect the guys that want to help the kids that are coming up. You are the type of man that makes pinewood derby be so popular, and I respect you for helping children like your doing.

THANKS Doc!!!...
The week of the derby is during what they call "Boy's Week". The following week is "Girl's Week". When the girls found out that the boys are having a pinewood derby... they wanted one too. There will be about 40 girls. Now they're very excited.
Now we're doing the boys derby on June 12 and the girl's derby on June 16. That just doubled the amount of cars we need. We are going to need close 100 cars to be safe.
The girls want the cars already built and painted. So, I'm going to purchase some pine boards from Lowe's and pre-cut and paint all bodies. The girls will pick their cars and we'll give them stickers and colored sharpies to decorate them up. The boys will paint their own cars.
I now need to buy about a total of 100 sets of BSA wheels and axles (for the boys & girls). Any recommendations on where I should get them?
Thanks, Steve
