RAIL HUGGER,
We test every month at the WIRL track.
It's a little humbling when everybody can see how bad those great ideas we have turn out in reality, but it does add to the excitement of the race results.

Rail Hugger
I have a 2 lane 35' Best Track with a Newbold timer. This is the same track that the WIRL uses just a little shorter. I don't have room in the basement for the extra 7 foot section. I am not crazy about the seams on the Best Track; however, it is very easy to set up and take down when needed. Best Track also gives you the ability to expand by adding more lanes if needed. My Newbold timer also is expandable by adding more lane modules. There are several very nice tracks available and each one has it quirks. The Best Track was my choice because I can easily take it down in just a few short minutes and set up back in about the same amount of time. I also liked the expandability.
Take care, Leo

THANKS LEO, I HAVE A TRACK THAT'S HOMEMADE 36' PIN TO TIMER,ITS REALLY SMOOTH AND FAST SEAMS ARE NEARLY PERFECT.TROUBLE BEING THE PIN HEIGHT AND DISTANCE THE SLOPE RUNS OUT.I KNOW THE WIRL TRACK IS 11.5" INCHES LONGER BUT MY CARS THAT RUN 2.960 AT HOME RUN 3.100 AT WIRL.SO I THINK UNTIL I FIGURE SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH TESTING IT'S GOING TO BE HIT OR MISS,SO FAR ITS BEEN MORE MISS.MY FASTEST CAR RAN SLOWEST AND MY SLOWEST CAR RAN FASTEST TIM

Hey Rail Hugger.
I have a 2 lane 42 ft BestTrack with a Newbold DX2000. I run Derby Master software.
Like 234, I like the easy set-up and tear down.

I'm currently using a 28' wood home-made single lane with a Judge timer. I have used it for several years and it has pretty much served its purpose. It's time for an update. I have ordered a single lane Best 42' even though my shop will not allow full extension without doors open. My plans are to keep the 35' track set up and add other 7' when weather will permit. Wheeler, I might get up with you about those joints when it comes in and I get the chance to set it up. Leo, great job on your first month in wirl!! Welcome to a growing and addicting family. ;D ;D How fast are you able to run on your 35' best as mine will be set up 35' the majority of the time?

Hi, I'm a newbie. . . had to quit lurking.
I must have a problem.
I carry business cards for some guy out in Arizona with me in case someone comes up and asks for help! :-)
I am adding 7 feet to the house so it is long enough for my pinewood derby track.
I have a 6 lane track and am using the BetaCraft/BSA aluminum plating with "The Challenger" design for the curves. I use eight sections of track and the pin to timer distance is 58 feet. At 1/25 scale the track record is 223.3 mph since last month when I started using the new Grand Prix Race Manager software(which I love!!!).
The reason for the length is that I use the track to put on races for lots of groups and needed the room for spectators. To keep the tears to a minimum, there is 2 inch per section slope the entire length -- a car has to be REAL slow not to make it to the end. :-)

Wheeler, I have a 2 lane BestTrack in the 35' length,I too love the ease of setup.I would also like to improve on the seams in the track.I installed the pins as per the instructions and a few of the seams seem to have a ramp up effect to them.It is a very mild condition and really only noticeable at 2 seams in one lane only. The rest of the track is so nice that I would really love some help with getting it near perfect.Any help would be appreciated. I have a 42 ft. 2 lane Best Track with a Micro Wizard Timer. I love it! As everyone else has said it is easy to set up and take down. Fred, I could use some help with the joints if you are still up to it.

Hey Wedge. The answer to my question may be in an earlier post, but what "method" are you asking about?

Looking for the method Wheeler uses to true-up the Best Track. We went a little overboard from our original test track to a 2 lane 32 foot Best Track. So far, we are not able to get the joints to line up resulting in significant step up where the track segments are joined. There is a thread somewhere on the board that covers this issue with the best track. If I can find it, Ill post the link here for you.
