Total New Guy here...to the forum and PW Derbies. I'm at a point that I need to start buffing out some of the nickel plated speed axels I purchased. How do I make these all they can be?
I'll buy whatever polish is the "cats meow". Every website seems to have their "snake oil". Are they all the same?
Are these retailers squeezing a tube of CREST into a cup and upping the price?
Jewellers Rouge?
If anyone has an opinion on the process ..and if it's different for nickel plated axels...please help. Thanks.

Alot of vender's offer axle prep kits on the web I would find one you like start with around 2500 grit and go up to 50000 and finish off with mothers billet polish. That has worked out for me on the max v nickel speed axles.

Wow...50k grit, huh? I found some 12k micro mesh locally and thought I had found the ultimate.
Thanks for the reply!

One word of caution, don't polish so hard or so long that you take off too much metal. You don't want to significantly alter the diameter the axle. Good Luck!

Same here....I have some of the nickel plated as well and they shined up nice with 800MX and then 1200 MX micro mesh paper and then polished with Mothers Billet Polish. Very smooth and fast.

Welcome to the forum rooster. For the nickel plated axles, we have gone through a number of different methods to get the final polish just right for our league cars. However, one thing does not change, do not go below 1500 grit sandpaper or you will start to erode the plating. If you use 1500 first, then sand for no more than 15-20 seconds. Go as high as you can on sandpaper and polishing paper and finish with media of your choice. Mother's Billet which Art recommends has been a league favorite for several years. It is a .05 micron polish. Clean the axle afterward with alcohol if you are going to use the Mother's as it leaves a film.
