I have a few questions for you guys.......
1. I read on the DerbyWorx board where some guys are not bending grooved axles due to binding reasons? I am running awana speed axles from MaxV, will I get binding from that? These axles have a large section grooved out, not smaller grooves?
2. I had an opportunity to run my awana car on a shorter track....4- 7ft sections with a backstop...so is that 28ft or is that considered a 32 ft track? What is race distance and overall track distance?? Anyhow, the fastest time was a 2.38 but in the end for the cars that qualify for the next level the winning average on all four lanes was 2.41. These cars cannot change wheelbase, or 3 wheel. My car is a 3 wheel RR (1'' in 2'), awana speed axles, awana speed wheels (1g) COM 3/4, and I got permission from the leader to run my car in the end. Mine RR very nicely but time was 2.47. One flaw I noticed before I left for the race was that during a roll test, my back wheels were travelling toward the body while going forward and back out to the axle head when the car was in reverse. I didnt have time to finish alignment even though I used numerous wax shims to strive for perfect rear alignment. The fact that the rears were hugging the body is this enough to keep me from the fast times of the other racers?
3. I have been reading many posts about drilling canted holes or bending axles or both. Seems each builder has an opinion on each technique. What do you guys think? Drill canted holes and use a slight bend for toe control? Drill straight holes and bend the axles 2.5 or so?
sorry for all the questions.......I am trying to have fun with building these cars but I can't help but remain frustrated......seems the more I try to RR and Cant rears, the worse the times are getting. My buddy ran his car at the race mentioned above and simply set it up for perfect alignment and I know his axles are grooved as well.
THanks everyone
