So I am in the process of saving, then buying a track for fun with the boy and maybe my friends with kids. Anyways so last year my son's boyscout pinewood derby race we built a car and it did pretty good for 1st try taking 6th out of 14. We could have made it faster by doing more of the suggested speed tips, but that would have been more on me to do and I thought it was more important that the boy do his own thing.
So then we got to go to districts were he got 38th out of 100 not bad for a run of the mill car. But what's got me wondering now is the pack master sent out a email about district and had a few speed tips in it but since our car was done we just let it be. But they suggested grooving the axles, and from what I gather in all the rules we got for both pack race, and district it said no grooved axles allowed. So now im wondering if people were running them at both which I would think it would be a form of cheating? or am I wrong? I know at both pack/districts they had a car check in so I would think they could check for those type of things? or is it not easy to check?
i want to follow the rules, and we did but if some people are using those type of axles how are we supposed to compete? any thoughts?
We want to build a better car this year following the rules and guidlines they set so we will do our best to build a faster car, and it will help once I have something to test the car on this time.

Well now reading the district rules it says you can have grooved axles... which differed from our pack rules. All well we will improve the design this year!
