Hi, new to the board, first post. This is my Sons first year in scouts, he's 7yrs old. So my boy tells me he wants to do a corvette, so we google corvette and find a picture of a mallett concept corvette and we both immediately said.. that's it. So, long story short. 2 fenders and 1 roof addition later, the car weighs in just under 5 oz without the wheels or axles. I would seriously consider tubbing out the underside and filling it with expanding foam or something similar for rigidity, but the pack has some stupid rule where you have to "prove" the car was built this year. In order to do that, you have to be able to see the special stamp that was rolled on the bottom of the block prior to being passed out to the scouts.
The best idea I have so far is to try and bore it out through the tail towards the nose and only have small holes on the back end that would need to be filled in.
Any other ideas? I sure would appreciate any suggestions.
thanks-epi

Can you mill all around the bottom and only leave the stamp part intact? Short of that, I'd shave the bottom off the car and then hollow the car out with holes, then glue the bottom back on.

Can't you take the car in it's current form to those in charge and have them restamp it somewhere that you wouldn't be removing the wood from? Behind the axle?
I would imagine if you take it to them with the current stamp still there, it shouldn't be a problem.

I would imagine if you take it to them with the current stamp still there, it shouldn't be a problem. I think there is enough stamp on the outer sides of each axles to please the officials. Plus I took pictures of our progress that clearly shows the stamp on the bottom. I think I will be ok just boring out the middle from underneath, like I stated above. I was just worried that I was gonna run out of wood to remove without bringing the weight down enough, but I no longer think that will be a problem. I appreciate the input. I will post pics soon. thanks-epi
