Hello all,
I have purchased a precut car. I want to use the pro body tool to get the maximum amount of distance between axles allowed by our pack rules. I marked my line about 5/8"s of an inch from the rear. The max measurement puts the front Axel position right where the existing precut slot is. How much of a problem would it be do drill my rear holes using the pro body tool and just insert the front axles where the existing precut slot already is? Is there a difference in depth that would cause a problem? I hope this makes sense. Any advice or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Mike Mike, I would just shorten up the wheelbase a little and drill a hole right behind the front slot location. You would only lose a small amount of wheelbase, but you would make it up by having a drilled accurate hole instead of having to use the slot. If you decide to drill into the axle slot instead, you should be fine. The Pro-Body Tool is set at the same depth as the slots, however, if you are using the Pro-Body Jig, the holes will be set higher (above the slots). Lucky 13

OK, Last year i just ran the precut slots in the car. I still ran pretty good but not as fast as the guys that ran the longer base between the front and real axles. Do i lose something by shortening the wheelbase? Or is the biggest benefit from having my rear axle 5/8ths of an inch from the rear of the car? Thanks

Thanks Mike Having the rear wheels moved back is a big plus. It allows you to shift weight further back and still keep a stable COM. A longer wheelbase can be more stable, but if done right, you can make a shorter wheelbase just as stable. Most of my cars are built with a 5" wheelbase, with the rear wheels 5/8" from the back and a COM of 3/4 or slightly less. Here are a few pictures... Lucky 13
