I have seen axles that a k house groove in them or a groove at the head of the axle. What does this do? disadvantages or advantages?

advantages: It lets you turn an axle without grabbing the head of the axle with pliers.... On these new wheels it comes in very helpful because after cutting out the second step the axle head is recessed.
disadvantages: none
And on a side note it it named after a cool guy and a great racer... prop's to you Achme...

I'll 2nd what 5KR says. I make sure to put them on the axles of all cars that my boys run. Tuning becomes much easier after that.
