Hi, My name is Murph and I live with my wife Linda and two children in Chattanooga, TN.
I am originally from the Green Bay, Wisconsin Area where I dairy farmed. I decided to make a career change so I got my engineering degree and now work for a large confectionery company as a R&D Sr Process Development Manager.
I got into pinewood derby racing through Cub Scouts where I am currently Cub Master for Pack 3430. I do a enormous amount of work with Cub Scouts where I run pinewood derby construction workshops and also run races for packs, districts, and councils.
I also race derby cars at PWDR under "Shining Light Tribology". We sure have fun racing these cars either through Cub Scouts or PWDR. My son occasionally races at PWDR under Tennessee Racing.
I will try to help you with your questions about car construction, interpreting rules, and how you and your Son can make a very fast car for Cub Scout Racing!

Hi Murph:
Nice bio. It sounds like you do a lot for Cub Scouts. We all appreciate your efforts in that. I've served as Asst Cub Master and I'm now our Webelos Den Leader... it can be demanding but certainly rewarding and well worth the efforts.
Steve

Thanks Steve, As many of you know, being a leader in Scouts takes an enormous amount of work! I have been a leader for three years now. Our pack has grown by a magnitude of 3 during this time. Our biggest project through the year is PWD where we have 100% participation from the Scouts/parents. Our garage is busy every weekend the month before the race with Scouts and Parents building cars. I have a decent shop where a scout can build a pretty nice car in a couple of hours. No one has ever been hurt. And we have fun! Murph SLT
