Can you shave the inside of the tread, essentially thinning the thickness of the wheel? I do not mean trimming the inside edge. I mean coring out the wheel. Is there a tool for this?

Hi Clydesdale, Thanks for your inquiry! It is best to purchase some aftermarket wheels instead of trying to remove material from inside the wheels. You can remove some material by sanding but it will take an enormous amount to time. If you want to purchase some wheels make sure your local rules will allow the use. I have used DERBY WORX Pro Ultra Lites with great success. They weigh only one gram and are very well machined. Most important, they will make your car fly if your car is well prepared! If you purchase aftermarket wheels, make sure you take care of them. If you take care of them, they will last for a long period of time. Let me know if you need any more information. We will be glad to help you!

We can't purchase wheels, we must use what is in the box. I would love to shave or sand the inside of the wheel, but I am afraid I would never get them balanced and that may cause some rotational issue. Any thoughts on that?

The only tool to remove material from inside the wheel is a lathe. I don`t recemmend this purchase because it will take many sets of wheels to even get close to machining a good wheel. "Yours truely" has been through this situation. You will have to build special mandrels and special tool bits. Murph
