The new style wheels with the cub scout derby kits now come with already tapered or coned inside hubs.
1) Should they be re-squared with the wheel bore and tapered again before making them true with the wheel lathe?
2) For a rail rider does it hurt speed if they are tapered?

If you are going to true the OD of the wheel on a lathe, then you should re-taper the inside hub and cut out the second step on the outer hub in the same set-up. On a Rail Rider the rears should never touch the body, but if they do because of a rough track or something you want them to be tapered and square with the bore... The FDW you want tapered and square to the bore because it does ride on the body.
