I would not consider my self a Dummy but I am new to Pinewood Derby. My grandson and I only had 3 days to get this car ready. I have less then 24 hours now and prepping for paint. I hope it will be dry enough so tonight I can install the wheels and axles to final tune it.
I have the wheels shaved and tapered on the car side. Axles straightened, tapered the head, grooved and polished. I have the COG set which was a bit of a pain as I had to route out much of the front to get it to just over an inch. Was wanting to get it to 3/4 but time does not allow.
I spent many hours on the internet doing research.
Did well considering no more time we had to do the build and being our fist build. Our car turned an average of 0.18 seconds faster then the next fastest car. This was just the pack race but still very pleased.
Paint was still wet Friday night at 9PM so I went to bed and got up at 4 AM to finish it then get in the car at 7PM to drive the 40 plus miles to the race.
We are going to district next weekend. Running on aluminum 42 foot Best Track any suggestions will be greatly appreciated? I am going to add a little weight about 3 grams as their scale was real close to mine. thanks Jeff
