Hello All, I am just getting started with the PWD scene (read as hooked) and I am thinking ahead to getting an airbrush. I read a suggestion on here to check out the Iwata Eclipse at Hobby Lobby (they have a 40% off coupon). There were two types there. The Eclipse bcs and the Eclipse cs. One is gravity fed while the other is syphon feed. The Eclipse cs (gravity fed) was a bit more money. Any thoughts from the painters out there would sure be appreciated! I don't mind spending a little more for quality tools but I would like to not be clueless ;D. How does 'Badger" compare? Thanks for any input Kurt

Get the Eclipse CS not the BCS. You will be able to pull finer lines if you would ever want to. the BCS has a 0.5mm tip whereas the CS has a 0.3mm tip. Badger 155 is also a good brush but really can't outmatch the Iwata as far as control and fine detail. Once you get an airbrush, like anything, you will need to practise, practise, and practise to get the feel for how the air and paint should be released. For practise, get some Newsprint paper and some India ink that way you won't have to worry about getting the consistancy of the paint just right.

I purchased a Paasche VL airbrush set last year. So far it has performed flawlessly !! It is a dual-action brush and if you buy the set it comes with 3 different needles sets which will cover all your painting needs from fine lines to thicker paints. The set also comes with several different bottles and the hose to hook it up to a compressor. I purchased my compresser at Harbor Freight Tools. It is a regular airbrush compresser and works well with the VL.

Does the cup on the CS hold enough paint for a derby car, or do you have to keep refilling it? That is my only reluctance to using a gravity cup. Of course, I have a double action Aztek, with siphon bottle and gravity cups, so I can do either. I have the 1.02mm all the way down to the fine tip, also. It was cheap one, but it has worked for my models so far. My Badger 200 (single action) worked well when I refinished my son's rifle stock with Duracoat, although I wish it would have sprayed a wider pattern. Do you know if the 200 can get a wider or narrower pattern with a different nozzle? I haven't found anything online, but I'm not that knowledgeable about it. It was given to me.

The CS cup will probably not hold enough paint to paint the whole car, but it does depend on how big or small your car is. ;D I like to mix enough of my paint ahead of time so that the mix doesn't change so I found some small squeeze bottles at the Hobby store for around $.50 each. I mix my color in there and then squeeze into the cup what I need to fill the cup. The Badger 200: you can get a different tip and needle for it for different spray patterns. www.dixieart.com/Parts_for_Badger_Model_200SG_200G.html

I wish it came in a kit with the assorted pieces needed to get going as the BCS does. Kurt
