Hi all. I have just downloaded the trail version of "Grand Prix Race Manager" software.
I currently use Derby Master software. There are some things I like about it, and some I don't.
Has anyone out there used the Grand Prix package, or any other?

Here is another software package that I know about. It is RaceTender and the web address is www.racetender.com. He includes the double elimination along with other tabular race methods and graphic tree representations of the race. He has a demonstration version you can download. Very neat!

Gills, Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I haven't checked this thread for a while. With the new version, I believe it's 6, I don't care for the scheduling of random lane rotation. Unless I'm doing something wrong, It schedules each racer to run all heats instead of mixing up the order. Other than that, It's pretty easy to use. I was thinking about switching to GP Race Manager because that is the package that WIRL uses.

I like the options for the race rotations, and the options for grouping. I can use it for boyscouts and my church RA group as well. The sound effects are pretty cool too! Let me know what you think.

Mike, Have you played around with the GP demo yet? I haven't gotten a chance to yet. I just got my WIRL modified car shipped out today at lunch, and just finished packaging up my WIRL stock car a few min.'s ago. If Blade Runner does as well as I think (hope) it will, I will have time to load the demo. If not... back to the race shop! ;D

Cool. Thanks nfritz. Have you or your organiztion used the software yet? Our pack used software that we wrote ourselves a few years ago. I found the RaceTender software while we were developing the communication for race management packages for our new timer. We have introduced a new timer called SmartLine and it can be found at www.etekgadget.com. We still help our pack run the Pinewood Derby and Space Derby even though our boys have moved up into Boy Scouts. (We have room for the tracks). We just did the Raingutter Regatta this year for the first time and the boys had a LOT OF FUN!

I think the biggest attention grabber to Derbymaster is the off season half price sale on the software. But after jumping back and fourth between the two demos, I think the GrandPrix software will be the one that we will buy. I think it will be worth the $60 price tag. Good luck with your decision, and I hope that everything goes well.

Not to say you will like it better than GrandPrix (his software is really nice too) but you should at least look at it.

P.P.
Maybe someone could talk to the people at Derbymaster about adding the sound affects like G.P. Don't know if you have kids or not, but my two boys almost wore out my speakers playing with the tire squeeling, cars crashing, and the ambulence sound effects on the G.P. demo. So I ask you, what choice do I have? LOL
