I have had a time perfecting a method to get the Pro Wheel Shaver XT to work well without digging into the wheels. I think in the end that my blade was a little too dull. Today I went out and bought a Gatco Professional Sharpening System:

Lansky makes a very similar system.
Cost at a local shop was around $37. I came home and started working on a blade for my XT. I decided to sharpen it just like a knife, using the 15 degree angle on BOTH sides of the blade (Derby Work has one side that is at 5 degrees, if memory serves me). The blade seems to dull quicker, but the cuts are almost effortless! I don't mind re-sharpening the blade every 4-5 wheels, if I can get the results I got tonight! Our pack's rules don't allow lathed wheels, but do allow shaved wheels. I have a Taig lathe, but want to stay within our rules. Hopefully this will help someone else out. I couldn't be happier with the results. I would have to say that they are every bit as accurate as wheels turned in the lathe!
