dose the shape matter. I was thinking about it ???and would like some input on this. I know the weight needs to be as light as can be so that you can put more weight in the back but dose the shape matter? please let me know. Thanks .

Other than your point of less wood, I would say probably not.

SHAPE MATTERS!!!! Well when it comes to making it look cool ;D ;D ;D
As far as speed, I don't think it matters all that much as long as you don't have a parachute hanging off the back.

I think building a good aerodynamic design is an ingredient in building a fast car, however it is the most important ingredient. I wouldn't go out of my way to add wind resistance, certainly everything being equal a rocket design would out run a Tall ship.
I think and Im pretty sure others who haven't won at the WIRL think that even if the "TOP DOG" builders were forced to use a hollow stock size block that with proper weight placement, lube, axle and wheel prep that the fastest guys would still be the fastest guys. As a matter of fact it might be fun some month to have a block race where the dimensions of a stock block cannot be modified or finished. Sort of like an IROC race.

No modifying the block other than to bring it to 5 ounces. We could even go as far as adding weight on the top only. Sounds like fun.

It is important, but definitly not highest on the priority list. There is so much speed in the other areas (wheels, axles, alignment). But all things being equal, the more aerodynamic car will win! I'd would agree with Warp on the aerodynamic issue. We all will do our best on the other things; wheels, axles, alignment, etc, why not have the added extra "umpf" of an aerodynamic shape.
Besides which a rectangular block of wood is soooooo boring and unexciting. ;D

I Think that would be fun to have a block race we need to come up with it. That way we can see how much it dose mater and see the one that dose the wheels and stuff the best.
