This is my first post on the board. I have been reading and learning a lot about the PWD cars. My son won his Wolf race and was the over all winner at his pack and came in 4th at the district race to win a trophy. It was a lot of fun. I want to start on ideas for his car for next year but was wondering about using an axel slot or drilling axel holes or does it matter? I noticed that the winning cars did not use the slots. Our rules don’t say that you must use the slots on the block of wood. If I get the Pro Body tool to help drill axel holes does that give better or easer alignment than using the pre cut slots. The slots on his car this year seemed to be square with the side of the car. I just wanted to ask and see what everyone likes better.

You and your son will be surprised how easy it is to use the ProBody tool with the existing slots. Use a try square in conjuction with the Tool and reference one side of the block of wood to ensure the holes are drilled square to each other. Pin Vise or slow hand drill should also be used when using this tool. It does help to minimize the amount of alignment you have to do but for the car to reach it's potential you will need to do some alignment, whether by wax paper shims or bent axle method.
