Hi, Ive been reading the posts here for some time. Excellent source of information.
My question is this. I built a car with lathed wheels and axles for the first time. (I purchased them). Compared to my other cars, the one with the lathed wheels and axles makes a sort of "zzzz" noise when going down my track (plastic). The other cars don't make this noise. Is this because of the lathed wheels or something else that's not right? Thanks in advance for your response.

Hey pinecone123:
Hard to answer your question without seeing the car run and hearing the noise first hand. How are the times? Is it slower than your other cars? I have a guess about the noise -- with the lathed wheels the tread should be perfectly flat as compared to stock wheels that have high points. As a result of the flat tread more of the lathed wheel tread surface may be actually coming into contact with the track surface. The increased noise could be due to the increased surface contact. That is not necessarily a bad thing.
If the times are faster, I wouldn't worry about it. If slower, then there is a problem, but I doubt the problem is in the wheels -- unless the set you got happened to have one or more defective wheels.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If your running ultra lites or any light weight BSA wheels, they will make more noise than normal wheels. They will quieten down with tuning but will always make a completely different noise than stock BSA wheels. I love the sound of the ultra lites slingin' down the track.

Thanks for responding so quickly. The wheels are stock BSA, not lightened, just lathed on the treads. I like the sound too, but it was something that I never heard from my cars before. The times are great. I guess I'll leave it and see what happens on a real track at the derby this weekend. thanks again. PS- I'm posting a question about my axles too. Please, read it if you get a chance.
