A question for the folks racing in the WIRL modified division. Is is standard to run 3 wheels on the ground and is it just a matter of preference on left or right touching.

The modified cars we run at WIRL have only one front wheel touching the track surface. The none contact wheel is has 1 mm less diameter. In the alignment method we use the touching wheel is opposite of the free turning direction of the car so it will tend to have more contact with the guide strip.

So if the car naturally turns to the left you would install the larger diameter wheel on the right?

Panzer, That's intriguing. I don't understand why you would want your tracking wheel to have more contact with the guide rail. In my opinion you have less energy losses by the non-spinning wheel making contact, i.e. not having to spin back up to speed and only the loss of sliding friction on the rail. Is there something I've been missing?
