Tim,
My best advice would be do it to have fun, and make it a learning experience.
I don't know how much experience you have, but that's where you start. (1)I would look at the rules (stock or modified), and figure out which one you want to run. (2)Next I'd get a kit and cut out a car. Put the weight in it and some wheels on it. It sounds like you have quite a passion for pinewood, so you probably have a pretty good idea how to do most of the stuff to the car. (3)Then I'd print out a entry form and send it in. It's probably too late to get one in this month, but the next race is Dec. 17th. You should have plenty of time to do that.
I know that sounds pretty simple, but that's about where I'm at right now. Every month when the results come out, you can see where you stand and try to figure out how to get your car to run a little faster. It is a little humbling, but it can be very rewarding also. You'd be surprised how close the cars actually run.
If you have any questions just ask, someone will help you.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Phil

Hi everyone, I did pinewood derby in BSA when I was a kid and they did not have this around back then. I am new to the WIRL just signed up today. My son and I did this last year for AWANA at our church and he loved it. I told him about this and we(father and son) would like to start racing soon. Questions I have is how do we get started in the right direction. Where do we ship our car to? How do we sign up for a event? When can we start? Can someone help us out or at least point us in the right direction? THANKS, BRIAN

Welcome Brian and Family, The best way to find out about the WIRL races is to go to their web site. They have a number of links in the left hand column as far as rules, entering, when the races are, etc.: www.wirlracing.comCheck it out, the next race is October 21. Just send your car or cars in about a week ahead of time to be sure they get there in time. Results are posted late in the evening the day of the race on this forum. Have Fun!
