Okay, as much of you already know, Im from the southeast region of the country. I live in the suburbs though. 10 minutes ago, I went out to my workshop to turn out the lights. We keep a bowl full of cat food for our cats out there. I just walked in and I heard some "crunching" noises. I looked over and it was a possum with both front feet in the cat food bowl, eating away. It looked at me and took off behind a cabinet. I had my wife and daughter come out to see, and they were able to see it curled up behind the cabinet. It looks to be about half grown, and I dont know what to do. I feel bad for it because its cold outside but Im a little nervous about going into the shop tomorrow. Has anyone had this problem? Im not kidding.....I left the door open so maybe it will go out sometime tonight. I dont want to poison it either. I hate to see animals suffer, but Im worried about our cats being bitten.

I swear this is not a joke. Tory, My guess is that the possum probably invited 3 or 4 of his closest friends in for an over nighter, with all the cat food they could eat. Seriously, good luck. I hope it left on it's own. If not, you might be able to catch it in a trap and release it outside. Phil

Try to get a hold of a Have a Heart trap. You could trap it and take it out of the shop and let it go. I've done that before.
As you found out...they love cat food, especially canned cat food. Put some canned cat food in the trap, get rid of all the other cat food. Presto....Possum in a box!!

Ive been researching some different ways of getting the possum (or possums) to go. Some websites say to use Fox urine, some websites say to set up plastic owls, and some say that a trap is the only way to remove them. Check this price out for removal Raccoons/Opossum in the Attic..................................................$350 *One flat price to remove raccoons or opossums from an attic, includes all necessary trips. Doesnt have a price for work shop removal. Im gonna get some of the fox urine and spray it around. The thing Im worried about most is my work shop is attached to the house and there is a little hole in the crawl space of our house. I might have a whole colony of those things living in the crawl space.

The fact that you have the other animals (cats) around limits your options a little with respect to poison, smells (mothballs), etc.
You should probably try docb's "Possum in a Box" approach, but frankly I would be more inclined to knock him off instead of catch and release. Nasty creatures.
Unless you drop him off down the road a bit, you might end up with a frequent flyer in your cat food bowl. And be careful when you release, they can (but rarely) turn on ya.
