Well I stand corrected, obviously you guys are much better builders than I am and obviously have done it longer. I wish I could say I had my own track and could prove/disprove you, but I don't so I think I will back out now!
Do you have an idea why they are so different then?

As far as you Phil, I hope you aren't "screwing up" any of your other cars this month, Woody, You don't have to worry about that. I left them in Georgia so I wouldn't be over engineering them. I guess we'll see how long graphite (and luck) will last. Good luck this month to all. Phil

OK,
Everybody just keeps dancing around the real issue without coming right out an saying it. After reading all the posts I get the feeling that several of you feel your cars were tampered with leaving them much slower than they were when they were shipped to the WIRL.
I for one do not think for one second that ANYONE from the WIRL would ever tamper with a car. There is simply no motive at all for someone to do such a thing. NONE AT ALL!! I think there is a perfectly logical explanation for the slow down. We have not completely ruled out that the cars were not banged around a little during shipment to Georgia. It could be that we will never know the answer as there are so many possibilities. Remember, we are dealing in thousandths of a second.
The first car I sent to the WIRL in Feb ended up being DQ's for a 3/8 violation. Steve and Jennifer were kind enough to race the car for me on the WIRL track in order to give me a baseline. When I got the car back and raced it on my track I discovered it had slowed down considerably. The car didn't even race so why would someone slow it down? However, rather than jumping up and down and screaming bloody murder, I simply went back to work and was LUCKY enough to win the stock division the very next month.
I recommend that everyone keep working hard on their cars and sooner or later they will reap the rewards for their hard work.

I for one, have total confidence in WIRL, and, I appreciate the countless hours they spend every month. 99% of the people in WIRL have no major problems. It's time to drop it, and get on with the racing. Fred Wheeler

I agree totally!
234, I was trying to hint toward what you said, but backed off.
WIRL is awesome as far as I'm concerned, I had no idea that other people actually liked this like I do. You guys prove I'm not crazy (wife still has a vote of crazy though....)
It would do nothing but kill the thing that WIRL is doing to tamper with a car, so I don't believe it. I think I will have to go with Fred, Let's just race!
They print the rules and we all know them up front, the other option is not to send them you car.

I was a bit confused too on what the subject was. A couple possibilities come to mind. First one starts with question, were the wheels re-lubed before running after return to the home track? Could perhaps the graphite/lube have started to wear out?
The other thought would be the box could have gotten banged around pretty good during shipping and possibly moved the alignment ever so slightly.
Other than the myriad of other possible variances, these two things seem to me to be the most likely.

LOTS OF DRAMA BEING RESONATED FROM 5 OUNCES OF PINEWOOD..............IT MAKES YOU KIND OF CRAZY! LOOKS LIKE THE MAY WIRL IS GOING TO BE VERY INDEED! (WARNING - PURELY OBJECTIVE COMMENT APPROACHING)THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WE ALL WANT A FAIR RACE - HOPEFULLY THERE CAN BE A LOGICAL SOLUTION SO THAT EVERYONE CAN BE SATISFIED REGARDING THIS DILEMNA.

The bottom line is He feels that something happens to his cars and he is not going to race. This is his right and I respect his judgement on his own cars. I have only sent one car in and been reading these boards for several months and will miss seeing his cars and his comments on this board.

Pat, take some time off and reconsider. You have been a great friend and competitor. You are one of the reasons I stuck around here. A couple of possible theories on why there is a difference in times are: I) WIRL sets their track up every month. If is probably impossible to set it up exactly the same way 2 times in a row. Does Glenn keep his set up 24/7? II) Could the altitude difference between Utah and Georgia have any bearing on performance. III) What about other forces of nature I.E. humidity and so on...?
I just hope this is not the last of the Pat man.

II) Could the altitude difference between Utah and Georgia have any bearing on performance. well I can answer these two ?'s... my track is taken down 2 or three times a month to run derby's in other locations... the track is set up all over salt lake valley, and when I pull cold fusion out for display and to show it off it runs the same times as you have seen on the video's 3.000's... in other locations... altitude difference, well super sonic ran back at wirl in December and ran a 2.973 ave... and when it came back it ran the same... sense then the car has been speed up about .010... on my track now it runs 2.965's ave... I hope this helps... just looking for answers.. thanks Glenn

Does Glenn keep his set up 24/7? If you own a Best Track and have assembled one then once you have the first Assembly done, the track is set at this point so that when you take it down and put it back up it is the same no matter where you set it.

Emerson, hope you're back soon, I can understand why you may need a little break. As far as the times goes, it seems odd to me that the cars that change the most are cars that Jewkes has aligned and tuned (even other builders cars). My cars don't always go as fast as I think they will, but I can't see any reason as to why certain cars would be "adjusted". Especially, since they had different builders names on them. Is it possible that the lube method Jewkes uses has some reaction during shipment to humidity or other variable that would change some of the cars friction reducing properties enough to slow the cars down? Just another thought.

If you own a Best Track and have assembled one then once you have the first Assembly done,... I have owned a BestTrack since 2004. the track is set at this point so that when you take it down and put it back up it is the same no matter where you set it. I disagree. If you set up in the same area every time, it can be very close but, if you set up at different locations, the track set-up will change, although it could be slight, but it will change (at least with all of the set-ups I have been involved with).
