HELP!!!

So I broke out my son's car today for test and tune (district is on saturday) Ran the car, it was noticably slower. So we ran a couple other cars, they were slower too, so not so bad. However, while checking the car I noticed the front end warped, and now one of the wheels is off the track. It's a bit slower than another boys car, which, to be honest, his father bought the body, wheels and axles last week, it is not the same car he placed 7th with at the pack race. Unfortunately we don't impound cars, and I'm not about to turn him in to the race officials for not using the body and parts from his kit. Anyway, I nee to speed it up a bit, and I'm guessing rail rider it is, now that that one wheel is up. I dont have the time or tools available to bring the wheels into the body, so I assum I can get it done by bending the axle? I know there are a million threads on this, I'm just looking for the most solid way to do it and have it get faster. I replaced an axle I thought was bent, and to be honest, I use nyoil and did not relube between races, so I'm going to clean the axles and bores tonight and relube, hopefully that helps as well. Going to test and tune again tomorrow night after I fix the car with your suggestions. Thanks in advance guys, sorry so long winded, I'm just frustrated now, and I know he'll be dissappointed to lose to a car that skirted the rule book.

The quickest way to get it tuned in as a rail rider is to remove the down wheel & axle, bend the axle just a little with some soft jaw pliers or a throw away wheel to hold it, re-lube & install the newly bent axle & wheel and it would be ideal if it holds tight without glue or just a dab. Take to the track tonight & run it and spin the axle either way until you get it running as best as you can, then glue the axle in solid. Grab & bend that up wheel more than it is if needed to make sure it doesn't touch the track since your committing to a rail rider. Hope it works for you. Da Pine

I have some xtra axles so i should be good there. I am going to try it and see what happens. I am also cleaning the wheels and axles with alcohol and relubing, so hopefully I can come up with some kind of happy medium. The up wheel is for sure up, it's a good distance of the track, but I will make sure. Thanks for the help!

Hey Fatdaddy:
You got great advice from DaPine. One other thought -- up is good (for the up wheel), but up too much is not good. Keep in mind that the center rail in only 1/4 high. So, is your up wheel has more than 1/4" clearance, you are up to much. I only mention it because the consequence of raising your up wheel higher than the center rail can be severe.

OK, so it appears I freaked for nothing. Cleaned the wheels and axle's with alcohol, relubed, and the times dropped 5 to 7 hundreths of a second, a HUGE drop. So I'm pleased, and I think that puts us in a great position for district. I will update you guys after the races are over. Thanks for all the input. I was also able to help 2 other boys, one who's father isn't in the picture, and another who's father knew nothing about weight (had 1/4 oz weights glued everywhere on top of the car, had not recessed any of them at all) so I worked with the boy and his mom, and the other boy and his dad, gave them a few basic lesons, redistributed some weight, redrilled soem axle holes, and they were dropping times like you wouldn't believe. We are going to run a clinic next year, hopefulyl that fosters good competition, and we keep it where it is as far as no one accusing anyone of cheating.
