I built my car (hopefully to run at the Lima open this year) foe hue-statics only I went to my local hobby shop and bought a piece of balsa paneling, used for r/c airplane to glue to bottom of car. I thought I measured needing 3/16 i believe I bought 1/4. It's a real tight 3/8 almost 5/16. How low can this really be. I know our scout track if wood and 3/8 is pushing the limit.

At Lima, there is a tech box that the car needs to fit into. The tolerances are right on. 5/16" will clear the center rail on a BestTrack, but will be too low according to the rules. I have failed tech being too low @ about 11/32" in one of the leagues & learned it's best not to push it and stay on the safe side of the allowed measurements.
PWD Racing was the sanctioning body @ Lima last year and can probably give you an absolute answer.

The tech boxes are built to exact tolerances, so be on the safe side and make sure you have 3/8 inch clearance !!
