First Atlanta om the 4th of July weekend, now Lima On Nextel Cup weekend. I'll never make one of these live races. I need to retire so I can have more time to race.

I spoke with Larry the race promoter this weekend. He wanted me to post this info on the boards. The Lima Land Open Pinewood Derby Race is being held in conjunction with the Rebel Run Rod & Custom Nationals car show at the Allen County fair grounds again this year. He wanted to let everyone know that in addition to the PWD race entry fee, there will be a $7.00 gate admission to the fair grounds as the race and the car show is not separated. Children 12 & under are free. He tried to get a pass for racers, but was not successful It is a great car show and well worth the admission price.

If you are planning on attending the Lima Land Open this year, you might want to bring you lawn chairs as the seating was limited last year.
The racing excitement kept most of us on our feet anyway... ;D

I want to thank everyone who attended the Lima Race. I especially want to thank Mike Parrish for driving 150 miles through the fog, to manage the race, and Phil Fisher for helping with the track setup and the race. Those in attendance from Wirl were: DerbyMaster, Phil, WarpSpeed, 234, Lucky13, Parrish, D&M, Barga, all 3 Jewkes, Dr. Jobe, Reed, and myself. If I forget anyone I apologize. There was a total of 58 cars. I was surprised at the people who showed up, by reading this website, several families from Ohio drove to the race, as well as a family from Michigan, it was great!! Thanks Everyone, and hopefully you all had a good time. Fred

Sorry I couldn't make it folks... Perils of being a small business owner. It sounds like the event lived up to it's billing by being the largest so far live event..
Thanks to all that made it happen... Larry Reed, I'm hopeful that this year made up for last year as far as your expectations are concerned. Fred, thanks for all of your hard work on the track and setup. Mike, thanks for running, and thanks to everyone else for helping. This can only get bigger.

I was actually supposed to attend the Lima Race also. A family situation came up and made it impossible for me to go. I had to eat $426.00 because my ticket was non-refundable - so you know I had good intentions of attending.
However, I'd like to thank the Jewkes family for racing Casino & everyone that helped with the race.......Great Job! From all that I have been in contact with - it sounds like it was a great success! What I hope comes out of this is the development of a greater kinship amongst all of us. Many of our relationships are developed only from what we read in black & white here on this forum. The rest is from what we hear from those that e-mail & pm each other. There are a few of us that talk to each other on the phone. An even smaller fortunate portion of us can actually say that we have internal relationships that involve actual face to face contact. It is easy to develop the wrong impression of a person when only written communication is passed back & forth. I believe that after many of you had a few hours in Lima together...........had the opportunity to look each other in the eye..............that you have come away with a greater respect for one another.
That would be the greatest victory to come out of Lima!

Well stated Joker. I hope there is no bad blood and only a greater respect for one another. By the way, this is a fun hobby but I wuldn't want to do this for a living. Too tough on the heart!

I know this is kind of far out, but are there plans for a Lima race in 2007? It is only a couple hours from Detroit and my boys and I would love to come.
Thanks,
Jim

The Lima Land Open is a go for 2007. It will be in Sept. Not sure of the exact date.
Psycaz and ninjarabbi, It' a easy drive from Detroit to the North Coast Open. Get on the Ohio turnpike and take it to th Rte. 58 exit, go north about 5-8 miles and your there!! Plenty of restaurants, stores, gas stations, and even a Motel 6 and Days Inn if you decided to make a night of it. If I can help you with anything, drop me a line. I hope to see you both there!!!
