Wooden Wonder sent this to me! www.ohio4h.org/youth/statefair/files/Part_1_2004_GeneralInformation.pdf Check that site out. One day I typed Ohio State Fair pinewood derby ino webcrawler and this is one of the sites that it gave me. It is actually a 4H site and the race is not a 4H event. I noticed there was some discrepencies as to the date on the form. August 9th is a Monday. So I called the number at the top of the rules form and talked to the lady that said she is actually the one responsible for doing the rules and orginization of the race. She told me that the rules have not been updated and she did not post that on there. Whoever posted it, did so on their own. She told me the race was actually on the 15th but I could go ahead and use that registration if I wanted to get them registered. So I did. She said we would get a new copy of the rules as soon as they were done. We have not heard anything more. I almost forgot to tell you, after you go to that site scroll all the way to the end. The pinewood derby stuff is the last 3 pages ( 14-16 ). The phone number is at the top of the first page. Good Luck! Hope to see you there. If you live in Ohio, this is FUN for ages 5-11! Pre-Registration only, first 400 get in!

Just got back from vacation and in the mail was the old entry that I sent in back in April along with the uncashed check. I figured that meant they were not having it. But, also in the envelope I found 2 new entry forms with corrected date. So I filled out the new forms and put it in the mail today along with the old check. If things go as planned both kids cars will be entered in WIRL next month to find out if they are any good. That may be a stretch though because I have several things needing done before that.

yea what is the new date? any new info same stupid rules? lol, spill it Barga! New date is still Aug 15. That is what is shown now instead of Aug 9 on the old form. Rules appear to be exactly the same. I honestly do not see a phone number on it to call.

Went to the fair, had a good time, but did not do any good in the race. Both kids finished second in their heats and qualified for the Race of Champions. Both got big trophies for finishing in top of their heats but both got smoked in the RoC. Three years in a row that the winner has had an illegal car, same kid 2 years in a row. Just happens to be the same kid that I disqualified from our district this year using the same car. What is sad is that the kid bragged to my son that he was using the same car and the fair judges did not catch it. Seems his grandpa has taught him that it is not cheating if you don't get caught and if you do get caught it still was not cheating the judges are just too picky. I complained to the judges and they simply said that they can not catch everything. I was going to build an illegal car for next year but I decided that would not be right, I would be no better than the cheaters that they are. So instead I volunteered to help judge cars next year. The head judge took my name and number and said he will call me. So next year no one will get through with an illegal car. Also I was not going to judge at districts next year because I felt bad about DQing so many cars this year but because of something that boy told my son I am going to judge at districts this year. And considering this kid has a younger brother that will be a tiger next year I will volunteer to keep judging even after my boy is out of scouts. In case you are wondering what he said he told my son that they are going to bring 2 cars to district next year and if I disqualify the first one they will just go get the second one. They have no intentions of trying of pass a legal car on the first inspection. Sorry for getting off course guys. I am not the most rightious(?) person but it bothers me that this guy builds some really fast cars and would probably still win with a legal car but he still feels he needs to cheat at every race he enters. I'll get off my soapbox now.

What did he do to make the car illegal ? Rules say no machining wheels or axles. Instead of coning hubs he somehow turned the outside of the hubs down which would have the same effect as coning. Also axle heads were obviously tapered. Also the wheel tread was cut on an angle so with the axles mounted level the wheels were only riding on the inside edge. It is sad because I am sure this guy would still have fast cars but for some reason feels he needs to cheat.
