I really believe that a big axle Stock and Modified class would draw several new racers. They could be ran together just separated for the classes. The other leagues have more in the big axle Stock and Modified classes than they do in the needle classes by close to 2 to 1. I personally like the needle axle classes, but I know I'm in the minority. Just my 2 cents worth. Phil

I would really like to see some changes in league racing. There needs to be a place for people to start and see some progression then move up to the upper level. I have spoke with several people and most seem to agree that there needs to be a novice class, not a ROOKIE class but a novice stock and novice mod that is the place to start or for the new or occasional racer, this can be the big axle class. Top 5 in points are automatically moved to the expert classes. This way newbies and the building challenged have 2 classes to race, not like Rookie, where you have guys racing it and, stock, pro stock and mod and pro mod.

Novice stock and Novice mod would be excellent. I also think the rookie rules could stay but just call it Stock. I too have been talking to some people about this very thing. Great idea!!

I wish WIRL had a Hot Rod 66 class. I love that class, it is very different and unique from all the other classes but, even though RacerX tried to promote it and offered to provide the support for it, they won't run it. HyperDrive

HyperDrive Id be up for that class at wirl. Im thinking that if asked enough, that wirl would add a class or two. We just need to show the interest.

Hot Rod 66 RULES!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Not because I came up with it, but at Lima, they were by far the most fun to watch, looked like mini old school drag racing, and the times are fast, especially for a 6" car and with it being 6 oz on that short wheel base with some body height, it changes things a tad. But most of all, Orange Peel was some of the most fun I have ever had building a car, there were all of the extra dimensions to take in mind other than just whacking down a block of wood into a plank. As a mater of fact, Orange Peel is about a 1/4" taller than the minimum 1 3/4" roof height just because it would of looked squaty and it ain't cool to look un-cool!!! ;D ;D Everybody should build one just for the challenge. I agree with pinewood performance, rookie class is not a novice or beginner class by any means, it just has more relaxed rules than the pure/limited classes. A novice class would be great for new guys who want to jump right in and not feel too overmatched. Just my opinion.

Race Fast Racer X We most certainly agree!!! Although we personally feel that a simulated chrome engine (oversized and equipped with a blower, of course) should be a required feature. We willingly chose aesthetics over speed in a couple areas (at least that's our story and we're sticking to it... ), but had a ball running it at Lima. It was a lot of fun trying to scale down a realistic look to a 6" chunk o' wood. My only suggested revision would be to make it a Hot Rod 88 class. Might make it a little easier to build the scaled Top Fuel dragster we've been considering, and with 8 and 8 it might even dust off a couple more of the other classes. Maybe attract a few more speed demons... p.s. can you say "funny car" LOL.

No disrespect Bubba and the funny car is cool (it dose lack a lot of NHRA & IHRA saftey equip ;D), but the whole idea behind Hot Rod 66 is to craft something yourself, not depend on a model kit to be the body. I built plenty on model cars as a kid and my son has plenty on them to plifer from but making it yourself (like Green T) is way cooler and will help us all develop better skills as builders. Now the oversized chrome engine is cool. Lucky 13 built a cool one for the first HR66 race with a HUGE cartoon sized engine!!! Now we need to build some that are curled up ready to strike like the cartoons. Racer X

Not sure if I'll do another one unless I run across a model I particularly like (maybe a 2000 Silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 ). Do you know if Lucky has any pictures of his early rod? I'm still thinking of a hand crafted rear engine dragster (sort of a skinny Cha Cha with a rear mounted engine)... when I get some time Bubba p.s. Any thoughts on Hot Rod 8 8 class? Extra speed... yeah, baby! I'll probably build one for our Scout open class in January regardless, right after the Old School cars, my wife's new car, the non-Scout kids fleet, helping my boys with their Scout cars,...

Not trying to barge in on WIRL, but SAPCAR is planning a Super Mod class in April. These are still 7 inch cars (so any std pine car block / kit can be used) but can weigh up to 9 oz. Wheels and axles are wide open as well. We currently run a Limited Mod. class using big axles, standard tires 7 inch and 7 oz. Check out the specs at www.sapcar.comMountain Dave / MIR Racing

Would you be interested in a "Ill race your league, if you race ours" friendly swap? I think leagues like WIRL and SAPCAR are exactly what friendly competition is all about. I first heard about your league during the race in Georgia, and your website looks great and full of great info. The results are easy to read, and the cars all look great. Maybe we can get something going for 2008. The limited mod class looks very tempting. 7 oz cars with derbyworx rs wheels. what could be better? We all invite all of the SAPCAR guys to post on this board whenever you want .... We would love to see WE Racing, Odie, MIR, and all of the guys at SAPCAR to send in cars to WIRL and Im positive that this would inspire new guys to send cars in your direction. I have spoken to several guys at WIRL, and we all think that your league is a great up and comer in league racing. When you switch things up a bit, it provides new challenges for the builders. I think 2008 will be the best year ever for league racing, Period. Good luck to WIRL and SAPCAR, and league racing all over in the months to come.

Thanks. I was just apologizing for hawking SAPCAR in a WIRL thread.
I'll check with our guys to see about sending cars in, we really enjoyed the Atlanta race and meeting a lot of other entusiasts. The Old Man of WE and myself were comtemplating the Lima Land Open but I had a conflict and could not make the trip.
We're probably a little more apt to send cars in during our off season since with the small classes we have, most of our points races are close. We're off May thru July.
Yes at the moment the WE Racing group does have a slight advantage on the rest of us, the Old Man has a secret or two.
Well after turkey yesterday, it's time to get back in the "garage." Cars need work and daylight is burning.
