I just found out our district race is strict on using the stock axle slots. This means we will be building a new car in the next 8 days! Does anyone have any advice on getting the nails in straight and square without damaging the wood. Also any easy (fast) alignment tips would be great, as we typically drill our bodies.

I would recommend the pro body tool. It places the pilot hole at the top of the slot and is straight. The pro body jig also works, but I believe makes the holes higher in the body where you would have to tape a couple of hacksaw blades together and saw the slots deeper.

Yep, drill your holes and then cut your slots betwen them.

So I could just cut slots between my current axle holes and keep the same car. Thanks!

It work well! He placed first in the Tiger cubs, making it to the final 8. He placed 6th in the finals. His times averaged 2.94 seconds and first place was bringing in 2.88s pretty consistently.

I do not understand something here. If you had to use the stock axle slots, then what did you need the hack saw for? I understand the pro body tool to square things up and clear up the slots, but I don't think you would be able to drill new holes and then create slots, right?

he did'nt use the stoco axle slots, he made his own by drilling holes and then sawing across from hole to hole to make new slots.

That's correct. I initially used the pro body tool to drill axle holes. Rather than build a new car to conform to the district rules we just connected the dots. There are always, "two ways to skin a cat." Also wheel base was kept in the BSA stock location.

I know it is a little late but the Pro axle installer works great.
