Joseph turns 8 next week. He drew it from one of our patterns. I cut it out with the power equipment. My wife values his fingers. He weighted it, filled it, sanded it and painted 100% of it. He also designed most of the decals. He made them and applied them. He polished both the axels and wheels. He also assited with alignment and lubrication. In other words He did about 80% of the car by himself and assisted on the other. I'm very proud of my Cub who will be racing His car...not mine. As you can tell Joe is a Wolf Cub. We are currently working on it's "Twin" just in case this car decides to do a Kamikaze off the table.

Does your pack aloow those wheels? I guess the innner wheel mods are too new for packs to outlaw?

Inner wheel mods are a gray area. Most Cubs don't have the machinery or ability to do them. I notice on Derby talk that many Packs don't even allow hub coning. The debate isn't really whether these mods are happening, but whether it is fair to allow them at the Cub Scout derby level. I was just inquiring if they are dealt with in Joe's Pack rules. Actually, I would like to see Wirl have a third division. I would like to see the current stock named super stock. Stock would only allow wheel mods to the outer tread according to what is allowed now. No inner mods what so ever. This would open the competition to more people who don't have lathes and /or the desire or money to purchase wheels necessary to be competitive in the current stock division. Nothing else would change. Points would be awarded in three divisions, Mod, Super Stock and Stock. I know there are alot of "Cub" cars out there that might be sent in if this was available. I still prefer to race in the Super Stock Division. I like the challenge of getting the most out of the wheels, axles, etc. It is my hope to somehow break the 3.0 barrier in stock. ;D Hopefully before Warpspeed does.

Our Pack and District do allow them. They do not allow V - H- Or rounded. Here are those rules : saspack4.tripod.com/id18.html . Our council will not let you race if your wheels have been altered at all. If the wheel has been sanded even 1 time around then you are out. We have made a different car with a different weight distribution to compensate for the wheels for that race.

Some of the race commitee members came over tonight to set up the track to test new software and we sent Joe's car down at blazing 2.630 over the 36ft start to finish. That was with 4 cars on the track. We haven't even fine tuned it yet. The fastest any car ever went down that track was 2.747. I would say we shattered that. I'm a little worried...my son had an evil grin on his face like he'd just sneeked into the cookie jar ;D

Awesome car! It looks like your son has picked up on some of his Dad's Talent. I have a question. I am new to this and would like to post some pictures of my son's cars as well as the one modified car I am planning on sending in possibly this month. I am having a time trying to download pictures. Is there a place on this forum w/instructions?

FlyingJay... You first need to download your pictures on a host website. A great free one is photobucket.com After you have done that you can copy and paste your picture's URL address from there and paste it here between the image brackets. When you go to the full post reply page you click on the little picture frame ICON and paste your URL between them. It is the 4th button from the right on the bottom row. If your buttons don't show up for some reason type the URL for the picture only instead of < > use [ ]

My webelos II had one similar to that until he got too close to the edge with the dremel while routering a weight hole and it shattered. We will see how its replacement does this saturday. Your son did a great job, I hope it all goes well. Love the wolf. Was that a testers type computer design?

Gills. I make my decals using an ink jet printer. that is actually Disney's Big Bad Wolf. Just hit a search engine and type "Water slide decal paper ink jet". You should find a few sites that sell it in smaller amounts. They come complete with instructions. My son, the real Joe, age 7 who turns 8 tommorow does his own. The net is full of usable stuff. I was fortunate to translate it to Pine cars.
