I have been toying with various flex designs inspired by the following website: www.goaskgrandpa.com/flex.htm. I have heard of a variation of this design sometimes referred to as the "flex wedge" or the "hollow wedge," but I have not been able to find pictures or a template to build one. Can anyone direct me to a web page that shows the flex wedge or hollow wedge design?

Hi Flexquest, Welcome to the site! I could not get that link to work. Give me more information about what you are looking for and I will try to help you out.
We do hollow-out some of our PWD bodies. We use milling machines to machine the cavity.
At times, we input balsa in the cavity. Sometimes I just put shipping tape over the cavity.
Some racers use balsa in cavity for reinforcement and to stop any other issues associated with vibration/resonating.
I have used both processes. Neither is superior to the other.
Hope this helps.... Murph

We had toyed with that design around 2002 and found really no benifit in it unless the track was very rough. I think Grand Pa was a off-roader at heart. Hahahaha! But really I believe he came up with a good design to benifit from a rough / older track he had to race on but with the current crop of aluminum tracks there is no benifit in it now.

I built grandpa's flex design and found no benefit on my smooth track. It may be better on a rough track, however! Unless you just want to play with it I think it would be a waste of time as far as superior performance goes.
