Very cool! We've had good luck (or had just been lucky) with the standard WIRL boxes, until last month. Snuffleupagus arrived with the left rear wheel broken off. When we got them back, Digger Too had some damage, and from looking at the wheels, had run like this. The post man talked me into taping all three boxes together to save money, this may have contributed to the damage. I think best case is to have the bodies captured in padding, with the wheels suspended. Looks like that is what you are doing. Easy to do with a wedge or board car. Easier said than done with our designs. Let us know how it works.

You should be alright using this stuff. The case came with the foam on the inside. You just cut away what you don't want. If you'll notice, in the last picture, I placed some foam over the top of the cars that will press down when you close the lid. This will keep the cars in place. And you're right, the wheels are suspended... just found our shipping is about $7.50.
oh well... it will be worth it if I can get top 3...
And one more thing, this thing is deep enough that I could get another 3 cars in it.....
Heck, if I can get top points, I'll flood the races with slow cars...hehe..

This looks real secure I found something when I was at a local fabric store with my wife it is a stamp carrying case there is a green thing on top take that out there is 6 slots 3x7 cut some chair foam and wala you have a 6 car carrying case and there is room up front to put graphite or a few acc. If any one interested let me know I will try to figure out how to upload a picture here.
