Long boasting post, so please bear with me. The boys had their pack derby on the 4th and district on the 5th. Boy, did they clean up!
First, the cars:
Bear's car:
Wolf's car:
The track for both races was the same track: 35' or 36' Best Track with Fast Track timing set in the large holes. It looked longer than that, though.
The results:
Pack race
1st in each den. My Bear took 1st overall, my Wolf took 2nd overall. The Bear den took fastest team. My boys were .016s apart in the overall pack race.
The other bright spot of the Pack race was the family I helped out less than a week before the derby. The Saturday before our race, one of the dads brought his son over so I could help them build a car. He had never done it before, had no clue what to do, and had no tools to work with. In one morning we got the car designed, cut out, and weighted down. I sent them home with sandpaper, wood putty, and clearcoat. They came back two days before the race and I showed them how to polish the axles, gave them some sandpaper (up to 2000 grit) and graphite, and sent them home with my drill and clamp so they could work on it at home (my dinner was burning on the grill -- literally! Always remember to cut the fat off chicken quarters before grilling them). His car is right behind my Bear's:
He got 2nd in Bears and 4th overall. The smile on his face was so worth the ruined dinner!
District race
1st in each den. My Bear took district Grand Champion. My Wolf took 4th overall because he dropped his car right before his very last heat. and bent the left rear axle. Slowed the car by about .225s on the last race. That one heat knocked him from 2nd to 4th in the Grand Finals. My Wolf had been beating the 2nd place car. I felt so bad for him, but that's racing!
My Bear's times averaged 3.097s with first heat of 3.163s followed by times ranging from 3.111 to 3.069. Grand Finals averaged 3.076s with a high of 3.094 down to 3.060. My Wolf's times averaged 3.111s with the first heat of 3.145, 2nd of 3.125 and the rest being from 3.086 to 3.117. His Grand Finals times were consistent with the den times, but were messed up since his last heat was 3.325s on a damaged axle.
There were some close races, too. Check this out:
1st heat of the Wolf den at district. Times were 3.143, 3.144, 3.145 for the three cars (only heat my son did not get 1st in the den race).
My boys racing each other:
Most of the time, it looked like this:
And it's all due to what I have learned on here from a great group of guys willing to help each other out!! THANK YOU!
