Im working on a car for the dads race and decided to experiment a lil bit, ill post up pix as soon as i get to chopping wood. My plan is to start wiith a regulation pwd block and work with in the pack rules of stock wheel base & axle slots 5.0oz etc. I dont want to race a thin plank since that screams 'ringer'. So my plan is to trim 1inch off the long end of the block, the body will be shaped to resemble an early 30s style hot rod. Im going to hollow out the body as much as possible and replace some of the pine body work with 1/16 thick balsa sheet. The goal is to be aable have a solid looking car with as much of the mass located over or in front of the rear axle, c.o.m. of about 9/16in.
Any thoughts or comments are welcome hoping to get started this weekend. Cheers

Rusty, We run Hot Rods in the HR-66 Division in the Pro Ranks. They look pretty cool. Will you be running a rail rider? Thanks! Kent

I'll be initially setting the car up to run 3wheels touching, our packs track only has out side rails as it is an older home built wood track, im not sure that rail riding would work on it, i've read a little bit on the hr66 class and that sounds like a ton of fun our rules are loose enough that they allow for grooved axles and lightly modified wheels, if there were more dads/kids interested in the hr66 class i'd see about getting more of them built, most are just interested helping get their kids cars assembled, and i"ve never sent out a car for the proxy racing tho it does sound like a blast,

Proper alignment to run straight is key for the car.
Tracks with no center rails can be a tad challenging. Some racers have said to make the front wheels extend "outward" (more than the rears). Thus, you won't 'scrub-off" speed from the rear wheels hitting the outer rail.
My boy and I have done a bunch of work on this area about three years ago. We just decided to make a straight runner and it ran pretty well in district. I think Shawn got third place that year.
Thanks! Murph

Yeah my thought is to set it up like the r.r. with canted rears but tune the dfw so it runs strait on a tread mill, i dont have a practice track to set it up on
