Pardon if this rehashes something I couldn't find elsewhere.
Our cars have to use the stock axle placement, but the rules appear to allow shortening the body. Would there be any advantage to that for speed given all else stays the same?
Thanks in advance!

Generally not. Best speed comes from having the center of gravity (balance point) of the car as far up the hill as possible when staging. So if the car is shorter, it will not attain as fast of speed. Also, the longer the wheel base, the straighter the car goes. Short wheelbases tend to steer erratically.

I can't change the wheelbase, but was wondering if shortening the body made any difference.

Not specifically. You will need room to place some of the added weight behind the rear axle. So if you shorten the body, you may no longer have room for the weight.
