With all the talk of car damage lately I thought I would post some photos of a packing system Doc Jobe made for me. After the August WIRL Race the NP Car was broken on return shipment. Fortunately, it wasn't too difficult to fix - it returned in 3 pieces. This is a system that should work pretty well - especially for the cars using the needle axles. Thanks Doc! On the boards holding the car is the same type of foam friction tape the Best Track Stop section uses - it holds the car really well.

I saw this in real life and I must admit it looks and works SLICK! ;D The only thing missing was an active inertial dampening system.

Warthog, That is very informative. I really like how you labeled your box so that WIRL knows whos box it is. What size usps box it that? How about some other WIRL mailers show how they pack their cars. I bet a lot of new people like myself would like to know some good ways to do this. Thanks to anyone who responds, HyperDrive

We've done something similar using one of the garages that Lowe's gives out for their contest. We cut out strips of packing foam for computers to make a base and sides. Same concept. I'll post pics tomorrow if anyone is interested. We use it to transport cars back and forth to the pack stuff. Never know when a drop may occur.

Mr. Slick, you must be a Star Trek fan. I do use a dampening system to ship my cars. It's not a cureall but definetly helps.

sorry, I may have watched more than my fair share of the trek shows. . . . now it's SG-1 and Battlestar. I am thinking that what is needed is something like my B&O turntable uses. It can be dropped an the needle won't skip. Hang it on the wall and enjoy! Not ready to take it apart to convert to a shipping container yet. . . I'll have to keep my eyes open for a used one.

Yes, that would be the B&O I referred to. . . back in the 80s it was the best I could afford. Still my only stereo. . . I have to play new fangled Cd's in the car, on the computer or the kid's boxes. ;D BTW, how much is a professional quality reusable shipping container worth? What sizes are desired? Single Car, double, more? How many builders would be interested?
