In this thread I have attached photos of our Derby cars. I was going to post them in another thread but saw this thread exclusively for photos and thought it would be better to place them here. Nicholas' car on the left, Dad (me) in the middle, Michael on the right

I love this forum! I feel welcome as a newbie. I figured out how to post the pics ( obviously). I was surprised my car had the time it did...I mean, I used all the wood of the block. But, I did bake it out at 250F for 4 hrs before I cut it. I lost 3/4th of an ounce...my boys cars lost 2/3rds of an ounce each...

We all got started by others willing to share the knowledge.....it makes for better competition and more fun!
Baking the block is one of my favorite smells in the Kitchen. My family can always tell when I have another car cook'n
I am going to go against my better judgement next month and mess with the COG in G-3. It seems pretty constitent right now and the set up seems to be successful...but if I am going to move the car from the Rookie Class to Pro Stock it's got to get faster.
Someone more knowledgeable than me might come to my rescue !

Soobeesu:
Your family is beautiful. Your cars look very well made. I started posting on this board and proxy racing 13 months ago, and I was hooked -- haven't missed a month since. Thanks to the help of many of the experts who post on the boards and proxy race, I feel my car building has improved significantly. And more importantly, like you, I've felt welcome, and I've met and befriended many great people. I'm sure you will have the same experience.
So, welcome, and send it those cars. ;D

Soobeesu: Thanks for those pics, they're terrific! Gotta love the little pink PJs (with the built in footies?) on the little one. But I think I missed the pic of her car Here's our "baby girl" painting Grandpa's car for him last year, as well as her Open Class entry for this year. Except for Dad's car, she cleaned house at the Open Class! I have to keep my comments to myself, but I did get a chuckle out of watching her "pretty princess" leave a couple of the more boisterous Boy Scouts cars in the pine dust, so to speak. Bubba p.s. Make your wife one too! Not counting our Boy's actual Cub Scout cars, our family makes about 6-10 (sometimes Grandpa and Grandma come) for our Pack PWD every year. ;D

Folks, I am hooked on this. After ruining, and learning, on my first real attempt at 4 wheels and 4 axles, I scrapped it all and started over and I must say my wheels are 100 times better. Large flake graphite - bad...GM Hodges graphite -good. Bore polish with pressed white mpaper rod - bad. Bore polish with pipe cleaner - good. I did a dry sand with 400 grit paper ( by hand very slowly) after the shaver and wet sand. It really took away all the shaver cuts and was very smooth in appearance but somewhat rougher to the touch. Put graphite on the tread with an almost no pressure touch with a soft cotton cloth and the wheels look great...very smooth but with a bit of micro roughness. I wnet iwtht he approach that some graphite is good but I tihnk too mcuh causes side to side movement of the car. I saw this on all three of our Derby cars and we had really lubes up the tread.
This car I am making will be my first WIRL car and will race in April or May in the Pure Stock division.
