Please help! I'm planning on sending a "pure stocker" to WIRL for the March race. This car is a typical tungsten weighted car where the tungsten is exposed on the top so that it can be taken in and out easily by turning the car upside down. Do I need to glue the tungsten in place, or will it be accepted like it is?

You will want to permanent attached the weight otherwise the Post office handling of the car will assure the the weight is no longer in the car and that could damage the car.

I concur 100%. The USPS is brutal on cars. If the weight is not glued in it will likely come out, and the last thing you want is a 1/2 oz tungsten cylinder bouncing around in the same package as your car. What I do that allows me to remove weights is after drilling the hole for the weight, I drill a much small hole, about .086", through the larger hole all the way through the chassis to the other side of the body. Then, if I need to remove a weight, I can use a drill blank and tap the weight out through the other side of the chassis. Just a thought.

Thanks guys. I didn't even think about the shipping pro's and con's. Good idea about the smaller hole.

Hey Welsh:
If you go to the home page on this board, click on the "Car Photos" thread, and then click on the "Meet Katana" post you will see a few pictures of my newest car. I think you can see the little holes I'm talking about.

ProQuest, the Katana car looks gr8. I wish I could paint like that. I did see the little holes that you were talking about. What kind of glue do you recommend using to install the tungsten? Wirl said that they will run the car like it is as long as there is not an issue of the tungsten coming out during a run so i know that I'm OK there, but now I'm worried about the USPS.

Welsh what kind of tungsten are you using plates, cylinders, cubes? I had a car that was weighted on top and I knew I wasn't going to leave it that way so I used double sided tape to hold them down and it worked great.

The double sided tape should work fine, it would take alot of shaking for it to come loose. When you want to remove it, just pop it out and peel the excess tape off. I use epoxy when I know I am not going to have to remove it because it is very difficult once it is epoxied in.
