Anybody have an opinion on what lube would be the best to use with nickel plated axles?

Unless you know what you are doing...Graphite. Just my opinion.

Humvderby,
I agree with Smokin'. Don't make things any more complicated than necessary.
Start out doing what you know how to do the best, establish a base line, and then try other things. That way you will know how much difference each change makes. The difference between graphite and oil is not a lot, even if you are good at using the oil.
Don't be afraid to try things, it's the only way you'll learn.
That's just my two cents worth and it's free.
Send one (or more) in and see where you stand.
Phil

Thanks for the response guys. I was thinking of using an oil but from what I have read about oils they create a film between the axle and wheel which seems would negate any advantage of using nickel plated axles. If the wheel is riding on the oil instead of the slick nickel surface then a polished zinc coated axle would be just as good. Which made me think maybe there is a better lube to use with nickel axles.
I am considering entering the stock division some time in the near future.
Based on what I have seen from Buckeye, Warpspeed and the rest of you guys the only hope I may have is that they come up with some super lube from the dust the researchers just collected from that Comet!!!!

Let me backtrack. If you will be racing against me then I highly recommend using crazy glue for a lubricant. It cuts rolling friction 100% ;D

I ALWAYS PREFERRED MY OPPONENTS TO USE HONEY OR HAIRSPRAY AS LUBE - THAT WAY AT LEAST IT GIVES THEM A FAIR ADVANTAGE AND ONLY CUTS ROLLING FRICTION ABOUT 98%.

You can't go wrong with some molasses. And it tastes good when you have to clean off your axles. Jim

Wow! The Honesty and Sportsmanship on this board is overwhelming!! I mean I did not expect you guys to give me your best lubrication secrets. Lets see, there's Honey, Crazy Glue, Molasses and Hair Spray. There is just never an easy answer is there. They are all at the top of the list of lubricants capable of achieving "Super Lubricity"!!!! Now all I need to do is test each one to see which is the fastest! And Oh! I'll need to test a combination of them like Crazy Glue with Molasses or Hair spray with Honey. I just never would have thought to try any of these. Thanks guys if I need any other lubrication tips I'll be sure to ask! You guy's are great!!!!! Now I have a better understanding of what slkrnsntracing meant when he said "Don't be afraid to try things, its the only way you'll learn". Oh and if I get lucky and beat one of you guys in a WIRL race just think of how good you are all going to feel knowing I did it with one of your recommended lubes!! What a wealth of knowledge. You guys are the Greatest!!!!!!!!!

Humvderby,
Like I said before, stick with the graphite to start off with. That's what I use on my cars. I use Pine-Pro Graphite. That's the honest truth. I tried a oil 1 time about 4 or 5 months ago, and I changed back.
Good luck Sat. Hope we haven't confused you too much clowning around having fun.

HumV, If your response is purely sarcastic, then you'll fit in very well with this group... if not, then I apologize....
For those nickel axles, I would think an oil (SB-10, Krytox-100) may work better. I'm thinking that because I would think the nickel plating would cover the imperfections and give it a very slick finish.. The slick finish may not serve well to 'hold' any/much graphite.
Just my two cents... It's definately worth testing.

HUMV,
LOTS OF DRY SARCASTIC COMMENTS FLY OUT OF THIS CAMP......DON'T LET THAT BOTHER YOU.....IT'S ALL IN FUN. THE VERY FIRST SUGGESTION WAS A GOOD ONE. GRAPHITE IS PROBABLY THE BEST & SAFER CHOICE. MY TEST RUNS WITH NICKEL AXLES COMPARING GRAPHITE TO OIL SHOWED NO CLEAR ADVANTAGE EITHER WAY. THE GRAPHITE IS EASIER TO APPLY - THE OIL TAKES MORE PRACTICE TO GET THE CONSISTENCY RIGHT - APPLY TOO MUCH & IT WILL BE SLOWER THAN GRAPHITE.

Hey Hymv, Welcome. ;D I prefer the oil. SB-10 or Krytox. In my experience, the oil is more consistant over many more run than graphite. Sorry to throw more confusion into this thread.

Let me know how that honey/crazy glue combo works in testing ;D Every time I try using honey my dog runs off with my car. Once he ran off with my tube of crazy glue and glued the cats butt shut. We had to have the cat put down...he was so full of crap he reaked.

Smokin'
So that's why we can't keep any cats around here.
The ones I do see are puffy around the middle, and seem to have a real bad attitude!
I think my dog put some of the glue in our cat's toothpaste!

Smokin' I have no idea where my dog used the crazy glue on my parakeet, but it sure has him in a nasty mood too. [img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-9/1084256/ELBDC-ROQOD-ShowLetter[8].jpg"] Do you think that guy would haul off Tweety Bird? ? Saturday evening better get here quick, cause this board is going downhill fast. Phil
