What do you wheel MFG's or personal wheel preppers use for mounting your wheels into the lathe ?
The pro wheel mandrel ? or something else ?
If it's something else, please share.
do you check the run-out of the mandrell on the lathe before adding the wheel ? with the wheel ? or both with a Dial Indicator ?

Sporty, what operation are you preforming on the wheels? Are you turning the OD? or are you just polishing. Are you boring the ID? or just coning. What kind of lathe is it?
I need some more details to helpout here.

I do Awana wheels (OD mostly) on mine. I turned a mandrel on the lathe, polished it up, and press fit the wheels onto it. Works good except on wheels that have had oil already. Those tend to slip if you don't go real, real slow.
I marked a line on the mandrel at the number 1 jaw, and I can usually line it back up within .0005" by indicating and just fiddling with the position.

The wheel mandrel is a great tool for guys with a lathe. I used to cut the tread on BSA wheels for years. My old lathe cant meet the quality that derbyworx inc produces, but I was always happy with them.
