In the last six years, I have been lucky enough between my two boys and myself to earn 4-3rd's, 2-2nd's, and 12-1st's, in our PWD, Pack and Outlaw events. Over those years, we used a 35' wooden track. This year, we purchased a 42' aluminum. I know there will be changes in my weight placement. Some questions that puzzle me are: 1. Would a 25%/50%/25% (front/com/back) work better on such a long flat area, or is there a better weight value for a 42' track? 2. What are, if known, average to good times for stock BSA on a 42' track? 3. This year we are not allowing graphite after the cars are turned in to race. We only allow initial graphiting to be with gray graphite. Is there anything different, without channeling the axle, that I can do to help minimalize friction? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Batesville!
1. You can still be pretty agressive with your weight placement on a 42' aluminum track. With good alignment having the COM about 0.75"-1" in front of the rear axle works well.
2. This is difficult to say even if you have the exact same track as someone else. It depends on setup, type of timer, etc.
3. Other than typical wheel bore and axle preparation you are pretty much limited to the type of lube you are allowed to use. Others may have some suggestions on this.

I know of another group that uses a Fast Track with a 42' Best Track. I believe when they originally received the timer it was out of calibration and sent it back to get re-calibrated. For Pack races I would guess average to good would be around 3.4 to 3.1. just an estimate though...

Thanks, I used some of my old cars for trial runs, and was getting around 3.1 to 3.2, assuming their age and lack of lube, I hope to get below 3.1. On the weight placement; I'm with you on the placement for com, but was wondering if any weight behind the rear axle would help or diminish my time considering slope and momentum on the flat area? (Not a trick question, just wondering if you had experimented with this) It might not make enough difference to matter, but on the longer track it could translate into more than an inch at the finish line.

Of the weight added to my cars I usually go with about 1/3 of it behind the rear axle and 2/3's infront of it. Works for me.
