Ichiban, my interpretation of this rule is that you can't notch the front so part of the car is actually in front of the starting peg. What if your car design had a cutout on the lower front end, would that not be allowed? Our rules are similar but the intention was to prohibit a hole or notch in the front middle of the car, so the sides of the front would actually be on the track before the pin even dropped. Although some call this a "cheater bar", I have never heard of scout rules that prohibit it. The two cars that won our pack race saturday both had them.

Ichiban, I'd contact the Pinewood Derby chair right away and explain your dilemma !! What type of pack doesn't hand out rules when they hand out the kits, waits until a week before the race (knowing that most boys have probably already built their cars) to hand out any rules and then can change the rules at will during registration ? Sounds like someone needs to take over their pinewood derby that knows what they are doing !! Good luck with the situation !! I hope it works out !!
