Thanks guys what is meant by center rail width clearance 1 3/4. What is the body width between the wheels have to be. Robert h Most have to keep the 1.75 between the wheels. With a stock block and a small gap between the hub and body, youll get more than that. So a lot of "railriders" will slightly narrow the front of the block to around 1-5/8" . My pro mod at wirl has a narrowed front, and Im sure a lot of others do too. I hope that helps.

Hey Robert, welcome to the wonderful world of pinewood racing. I got hooked after my son and I built his first car last february for his first scout derby.
If you want to jump right in with both feet, then Ichiban hit the nail on the head. Buy the derbyworx tools, and wheels if you need them, (the products are fantastic) and maximum-velocity.com will ship for free. Randy really goes out of his way to be helpful and stands behind his products.
For beginners, I would recommend one of the block kits that are pre-drilled for weights. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Sorry guys, If i am correct center rail width clearance is referring to distance between the wheels, so i can cut down the width of the block as long as i have 1 3/4 between the wheels
thanks robert

Some guys like to keep the back at stock width, and narrow only the front.

Robert, you can do that but keep in mind that most builders like to keep only about the width of a credit card between body and hub. If you get the derbyworx pro axle guide, it has a built in gauge that sets a good distance between the body and hub.

Unless I am mistaken (which I often am) WIRL rules limit the height of pure stock class cars to 2 3/4". Not sure about other classes.
