What is the approx weight of the paint? ... Say, 1. primer, 2. Paint-3 coats, 3. Clear-3 coats.

I usually get the car (after final sanding) to 4.7 oz & start spraying. Once you get the color coat the way you want it with 3 coats of clear, check the weight again. You can keep loading on the clear if still a little light or add a small amount of weight like a dime glued to the bottom if you have the clearance. I mainly go by trial & error but, around .2 to .3 oz gives you a safe margin to adjust in. As far as weight of the paint itself? I think enamel weighs a little more than lacquer.

We just finished two cars this weeks and they each took about 2 grams of paint (3 primer, then sanding, 3 primer sealer, 3 base coat, three clear, then 3 coats for some flames). Hope this helps.

It will probably add somewhere around .15 oz depending on how light or how heavy your coats are. I'm still a rookie at this, but thats what I've noticed.

I think the idea of having the car at about 4.7 oz before paint is good - you can always add more weight if needed later. We just finished two cars this weeks and they each took about 2 grams of paint (3 primer, then sanding, 3 primer sealer, 3 base coat, three clear, then 3 coats for some flames). Hope this helps. Any pictures?
