:'(Well after 4 races it didnt take long, after this past April race one of my cars came back pretty much demolished,,both back axles busted through the underside of body, only the hub of the wheel was on the axle (right rear) other rear wheel was cracked around the hub, front wheel bent, and absolutly no damage to the box and the other car (2 cars in same box),,,this wasnt a very expensive car,,thankfully, These cars were well packaged too ,,so its goodby to ol Jungle Jim i guess,,ive already got another car to take its place,,,Has anyone had this happen?,,,if so will the post office cover the damage if i had paid for that incurance they offer for a small fee?(cause i gotta little more money in these other cars) time too!!

Srcracing, I feel your pain. I think we all have had this happen at least once. I do notice that my cars always come back from Wirl and Pwdracing packaged better than the way I sent them, so they really look out for our cars as much as possible. The post office, on the other hand, couldn't care less. I am tempted to tell them the contents are "fragile" next time they ask. Maybe I would get a nice orange "fragile" sticker on the box, then I am SURE they will be be more careful with them (sarcasm).

If you got the insurance, i would make a claim ! the hardest part may be the argument of value.
Keep us posted, but certainly if you paid for insurance and did a good job packaging it. and they can show when they shipped back to you in good condition, then file a claim.

Sorry to hear of your problem!
It's worth a try to make a claim, but when I shipped my high power rocket back to California from Florida, the shipper (FEDEX Ground) would not insure it since it was a "scale model". The replacement value is easy for piece parts, but getting your labor back out is going to be tough, I would think. If you think about it, these things are worth hundreds of dollars (maybe up to $2000), depending on how much work you put into them. Some of the custom paint jobs I have seen here are worth $1000, easily- flames, clear, etc.
I'm thinking about a restraint device that will defend against the problems encountered during shipping.

I knew a guy in college who worked for the USPS over the summer between semesters. They used to set up a bin- those big canvas things- special for the fragile stuff, and see how far away they could get and still make it in. You all have seen the results, at some point in your lives.

Sorry to hear about your car....I would concur that Steve and Jennifer always have sent my cars back to me in more Bubble Wrap than I used in the first place.
I find the Bigger Bubbles provide the best protection thus far.
See you next Month on the Track.

Well having not sent in a car yet, but hoping to get started soon, I was looking into the laptop box as a possible shipping container. The idea behind it is to suspend the laptop between two layers of plastic stretched tightly on the top and bottom thus making the laptop "float" inside the cardboard box. It is hard to describe but FedEx used to have them available for free. Some sort of modified version may work well though. Just a thought, and my condolences on your loss.
